April 8, 2025CISV has a lot of acronyms. Even our name is an acronym!
It can be hard to keep track of what it all means. So we’ve created a handy guide of all the terminology someone new to our organization might need to know.
CISV Terms
Americas
CISV International has three administrative regions – Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The Americas region includes National Associations from Canada, USA, Latin America and South America.
IO

JB
Junior Branch. Anyone under the age of 25 in CISV is considered a "Junior" and part of CISV's Junior Branch.

Local Junior Representative. There are two CISV Victoria Local Junior Branch Representatives (LJRs), who (if they are 16 or older) are both full voting members of the Board of CISV Victoria. The LJRs organize and lead the Steering committee and Junior Branch activities in Victoria. Once a year, our local Junior Branch elects one new LJR for a two year term. In their second year, the LJR also sits on the board for JB Canada.
LMO
Like Minded Organization.
NA
National Association. CISV Associations run our educational programmes and cooperate internationally through their membership of the umbrella organization of CISV International. Each association is legally registered, consistent with national law, and volunteer members manage the organization locally and nationally. National Associations are financially independent of CISV International, and are required to have annual audits and appropriate insurance cover. The vast majority of our associations operate without permanent or fixed offices, and only a very small number employ part-time administrative support staff.
