CISV Victoria holds a series of events throughout the school year (September-June). We typically host one JB meeting per month, and a few Mosaic Projects scattered throughout the year as well. Other events include board meetings, fundraisers, workshops/trainings, and socials!
Types of Events
CISV Victoria holds monthly Junior Branch (JB) Meetings, where our Steering Committee organize and run fun activities and games for youth ages 10-25 that explore key themes such as diversity, human rights, sustainable development, and conflict resolution.
If you walked into a JB Meeting you would likely see a big group of youth, laughing, maybe standing in a circle, participating in some game, and then a transition to small groups in a quieter activity and then coming back into a big circle to debrief and share, while youth from the Steering Committee lead with questions.
Mosaic is a project-based programme which empowers individuals and chapters to be agents of change, reach out, and involve as many people as possible. Each project is a separate CISV experience that relates to a local need and interest and involves a different target group. It does not have to be in a camp setting, as with many CISV programmes, but is designed according to the needs and abilities of the CISV chapter.
Using the core CISV Values, local members develop projects in conjunction with like minded organizations or community groups. The aim is to create an authentic learning experience for participants and deliver a benefit to the wider community
Age, duration and group-size are dependent on each individual project.
CISV Chapters are the hub of CISV and are run entirely by dedicated volunteers. Our Chapters organize and run our local and international programmes, run local activities, and recruit new members.
Our Chapter is always pleased to welcome new volunteers to help with their regular work – fundraising, marketing, keeping the accounts, training, recruitment. Whatever skills and interest you have and however much time you are able to offer, we are interested in hearing from you!
CISV offers workshops and trainings for its members on a variety of subjects. Some examples of past workshops have explored topics like environmental sustainability in CISV, diversity equity and inclusion, and profile-raising for our organization.
A few times a year, CISV Victoria hosts socials, for members of our community to come and get together, connect, and celebrate the work we do. Typically we host "Peace Night" in the fall where we welcome back CISV travelers and hear about their summer adventures, a "Winter Social" where we bring food and share in holiday merriment, and a "CISV Sendoff" in the spring where we wish bon voyage to all our youth who are going to CISV camps in the summer.
