CISV Chapters are the hub of CISV and are run entirely by dedicated volunteers. Our Chapters organize our international programmes, run local activities, and recruit new members.

Our Chapter is always pleased to welcome new volunteers to help with their regular work – fundraising, marketing, keeping the accounts, training, recruitment. Whatever skills and interest you have and however much time you are able to offer, we are interested in hearing from you!

The CISV Victoria board organizes and runs our local and international programmes, runs local activities, and recruits new members. Vacant Positions

CISV Victoria will be holding elections for board members at our May 22 AGM. Take a look at the open positions below to see where you might be a best fit, and reach out to secretary@cisvvictoria.ca if you'd like to put your name forward. Once elected, completion of CISV's online safeguarding training and a valid criminal record check (CRC) is required.

Chapter Chair

The Chair guides the board in upholding CISV’s vision, mission and values and ensures that they are reflected in the day-to-day management and operations of CISV Victoria. They are an official representative of the Chapter and a member of CISV Canada. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend CISV Canada National board meetings, quarterly 
    • Three times a year virtually
    • One in-person meeting over the Remembrance Day long weekend (travel and accommodation expenses paid for by CISV Canada)
  • Maintain regular correspondence between other Canadian chapters and national executive (minimal)
  • Preside over Chapter meetings and Executive Board meetings as a voting board member
    • Executive meetings are held monthly; the Chapter Chair sets the agenda and facilitates the meeting
    • The Chapter Chair also runs the local Fall General Meeting and Annual General Meeting, where board members present reports to the chapter
  • General facilitation of the work of the chapter and board members 
  • Ensure the organization is meeting BC Society requirements to retain registered charity status and update Constitution as needed 
    • File Annual BC Societies report (Online, November) *can be delegated
  • Maintain Chapter records *can be delegated

Programmes Chair

The Programmes Chair oversees all international programs for CISV Victoria, including who we send and to where.

Responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with CISV’s international programs, including goals and unique aspects of each program
  • Plan and oversee delegate recruitment and selection committee for CISV Programs
  • Liaise with Treasurer to ensure payment of deposits and fees
  • Liaise with Local Leadership Trainer and Risk Manager to ensure timely and appropriate Leader selection
  • Advise Chair on trends and requests for future program invitations
  • Work with CISV Canada’s Program Chair as needed, and ensure no fines or penalties are accrued by the Chapter

Risk Manager

As the Risk Manager (RM) of the CISV Victoria Chapter, you are responsible for promoting appropriate and effective means of managing risks involved in CISV operations and you are the main contact person for all incidents during programme hosting and participation. Every CISV Chapter has to have a trained and certified Risk Manager 

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan for, respond to, and address risk issues for in-person and virtual activities hosted by CISV Victoria and for in-person programmes and travel by CISV members regionally, nationally and internationally 
  • Collaborate with the Junior Branch liaison and/or JB Risk Manager to ensure adequate, criminal-record-screened adult (19+) supervision at all local activities 
  • Verify the safety and suitability of venues proposed and complete RM checklists as required 
  • Oversee the Criminal Record Check (CRC) process & manage renewals
  • Liaise with the National Risk Manager
  • Facilitate the submission of Incident Report Forms when required 
  • Respond to risk-related queries as they arise
  • Maintain confidential CISV documents according to CISV policies

This is an essential board role and it is highly important for the longevity and success of our chapter. Every CISV Chapter has to have a trained and certified Risk Manager. Training includes an in-person certification training (in Bogotá Colombia, Easter weekend 2027 – all travel and accomodations paid for by CISV). Contact riskmanager@cisvvictoria.ca  for more information.


Junior Branch Liaison

The JB Liaison works closely to guide and mentor the LJRs and Junior Board (Steering). They encourage leadership development and personal growth in the JB, and provide oversight to JB events.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide a mature and experienced opinion at the Steering meetings, assist LJRs to keep control and focus at meetings
  • Assist in planning events, making sure the Steering considers all logistical elements while planning
  • Refer Steering members to CISV goals and principles when planning activities and provide support to incorporate CISV philosophy into activities
  • Encourage leadership from all participants, teach Steering to lead their own activities, and help Steering keep JB events on schedule
  • Ensure there are enough chaperones at all local JB programming
  • Keep in the loop about JB Canada, be aware of opportunities available for the Junior Branch
  • Oversee registration for Chapter mini camps, including collection of forms and fees

Fund Development Chair

​Collaborate with our Fundraising Committee to explore sources of corporate and donor funding to support our Chapter. We're looking for someone with creative ideas for new ways to generate revenue for our Chapter. This role can be taken on by one person but is also well-suited for a pair to take on and share the responsibilities and help one another.

Responsibilities include:

  • Set goals with CISV Executive for annual fundraising targets
  • Oversee all fundraising programs and ensure they meet Executive expectations
  • Take ownership of finding volunteers to fill all Fundraising Committee roles
  • Act as advisor to fundraising committees
  • Facilitate the development of new fundraising initiatives
  • Work with the Treasurer to ensure that financial records are being kept for fundraising

Member at Large

Want to learn about our Chapter without committing to any one role? Want to get involved with a wide variety of projects and support in areas when it's needed? Want to be involved in our governance structure and see behind-the-scenes of CISV Victoria? Consider becoming a Member at Large! It's a great way for newcomers to take a bigger role in our Chapter but who aren't sure where to start. Attend board meetings to learn the goings on of our Chapter, and if you see an area where you'd like to help support then you can volunteer in ways that work for you!

This is an optional board position for someone who doesn't want to take on one specific portfolio but is committed to helping out the board where needed. Contact chair@cisvvictoria.ca for all inquiries.

Coordinator Roles

Coordinators report to a board member and are not required to attend board meetings themselves (but you can come if you like!). They are a smaller commitment throughout the year.

Mosaic Coordinator

Local communities are reflections of the wider world. Mosaic projects are developed by the Mosaic Chair to respond to local needs and interests. Most of the projects are planned and delivered in cooperation with partner organizations and come in many shapes and sizes. Mosaic projects create a practical and meaningful learning experience for local CISVers of all ages as well as delivers a benefit to the wider community.

Volunteer Coordinator

Do you like coordination? Are you good at seeing the potential in people and where they best fit into a team? Perhaps the role of Volunteer Coordinator is for you! We need someone who's able to keep track of all the interested volunteers who want to help out with our Chapter, where their skills lie, and how we can best leverage our volunteers when something needs doing!

Merchandise Coordinator

​Do you have inspiration for a design? Great ideas for how we can diversify our merchandise? Consider volunteering to be CISV Victoria's Merchandise Coordinator! This is a non-executive position that report to the Fund Development Chair. It's a great way to take on a smaller role in our Chapter for those who might be unsure about taking on a board position.
